They’re baaaack. The OG Scary Movie squad returns for a sixth installment of the raunchy parody franchise, and this time, it’s skewering the most popular horror movies of the last decade — including elevated horror favorites like Get Out, Weapons and The Substance.
The new film follows the fifth installment of the franchise, which hit theaters in 2013 and was the first not to feature Anna Faris’s Cindy Campbell and Regina Hall’s Brenda Meeks. The trailer for Scary Movie 6 — written by brothers Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Ivory Wayans and Rick Alvarez — reunites Cindy and Brenda with friends Shorty (Marlon Wayans) and Ray (Shawn Wayans) as they all navigate a world populated with all kinds of horror IP. Of course, that includes the return of Ghostface, the killer from the Scream franchise, which inspired 2000’s original Scary Movie. But there are new folks ready to slash into the original crew too, including the titular dancing doll from M3GAN and Art the Clown from the Terrifier franchise.
Scary Movie 6 also takes a stab at anything remotely politically correct. One of the characters, Sydney Parks’s Dei Meeks, declares they use they/them pronouns while being killed. Cindy tells Brenda she’s not sure if they should hug, as she’s a Republican and is “supposed to be racist now.” (Brenda replies she thinks all white people are racist anyway.) And, of course, the film features its classic NSFW humor, with a killer being taken down by sex toys.
Of course, no one watches the Scary Movie franchise for the plot: What has long defined the franchise is how it turns horror into hilarity. Here are all the movies Scary Movie 6 is poking fun at this time around.
The OG slashers (and a few new ones) pop up
The opening scene of Scary Movie 6 features Dei Meeks on the subway. As they look around, they spot people in a variety of masks from slasher movies. (Or, rather people in masks that are as close to the masks as copyright law will allow.)
While the scene itself is very reminiscent of Scream 6, which was set in New York City, the masks are from franchises like Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th. Even Heart Eyes, a 2025 Valentine’s Day-inspired slasher flick, gets a shout-out here.
M3ganmakes an appearance
The AI doll movie’s 2025 sequel may have flopped at the box office, but the franchise made enough of a cultural splash for the doll to stab poor Dei to death… before the doll removes its mask and is revealed to actually be Scary Movie’s version of Ghostface.
Wednesday shows up… as a different day of the week
In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, Ghostface stabs a character called “Tuesday” — who just so happens to have black hair, pigtails and a choker, a possible nod to Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams from Wednesday.

Cindy rips off Laurie Strode’s look
Jamie Lee Curtis’s return to the Halloween franchise in 2018 saw the so-called Final Girl as essentially a doomsday prepper, hell-bent on making sure Michael Myers never had a chance to kill her again. Cindy’s sporting a similar look when her daughter (Olivia Rose Keegan) appears on her doorstep.
The ‘Sinners’ vampires crash the party
The Academy Award-nominated Sinnersgets a fun nod when three people, dressed similarly to the vamps in the Michael B. Jordan hit, arrive at Brenda’s house for a party. “We’re here to drink, play bad music, do some half-gay s***,” one says. Ray, of course, is offended: “Why only half-gay s***?”
Sinners also gets another reference later in the trailer, when Ray arrives at a church reminiscent of one from the film.
Marlon Wayans gets taken to the Sunken Place
It was practically inevitable that Get Out, a massive critical and commercial hit, would be parodied in the new Scary Movie film. Here, the famous “sink into the floor” scene — in which Daniel Kaluuya’s Chris is hypnotized — is reimagined as Shorty being literally sucked into an armchair.
A ‘Smile’ reference sees the return of another iconic character
Jon Abrahams, who played Bobby in the first Scary Movie and was a stand-in for Scream’s first psycho killer Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), returns to the sixth installment with a very disturbing smile — a clear reference to 2022’s Smile. Unfortunately, he gets hit over the head with a pan by Cindy, who screams at him to “Stop smiling!”
The kids from ‘Weapons’ run
The 2025 film Weapons features kids leaving their home at 2:17 a.m. and running out the door with their arms outstretched — which is exactly what happens in the Scary Movie 6 trailer. Unfortunately, this time, one also gets hit by a car and goes flying.
Chris Elliott returns — this time, as Longlegs
Elliott, who starred in Scary Movie 2 as the creepy caretaker Hanson, is back. This time, he’s sporting makeup and hair that echo Nicolas Cage’s serial killer in Longlegs.
Someone gets a dose of ‘The Substance’
A quick moment in the trailer reveals a person being injected with “the stuff” — a yellow liquid that looks a lot like “the substance” in the 2024 Demi Moore film. This time, it’s Ghostface administering the painful injection.
Art the Clown pops up
The ultra-bloody, ultra-successful low-budget horror franchise Terrifieris featured in the trailer, with the deranged Art the Clown, posing as a mall Santa Claus, handing out body parts to children. (Honestly, is this even parody?)
