Vivica A. Fox has built a long career playing memorable characters in films that span action, drama and comedy. From the blockbuster alien thriller Independence Day to the crime drama Set It Off, Fox has delivered standout performances for decades.

One role that remains especially beloved by fans is her lead turn in the 2001 romantic comedy Two Can Play That Game, and in an interview with Woman’s World, Fox revealed her all-time favorite costume comes from that same movie.

“My favorite is my yellow Versace suit from Two Can Play That Game. I had to fight for that costume when I was going through wardrobe fittings,” Fox said. “I had a girlfriend, Cassandra Mills, who worked in the music industry, and she said my character had to show up and be a ray of sunshine. We went shopping and found this beautiful suit, and she said that was it.”

In the film, Fox plays Shante Smith, a confident woman who believes she has relationships completely figured out. Although Fox loved the bold yellow outfit and believed it perfectly matched her character’s confident personality, getting it into the film wasn’t easy.

At the time, the project marked an important milestone in her career. She had often been part of ensemble casts before, but this romantic comedy put her front and center, which meant learning how to advocate for herself behind the scenes.

“I’d always been number two or three on the call sheet, and this was my first time being number one," she explained. "My friend said, ‘Don’t be afraid to use your star power. You don’t have to be mean. Just speak up.' I ended up whipping out my own credit card and paying for a lot of my own wardrobe, and it was worth it.”

Looking back, Fox said the decision “paid off.” Investing in the wardrobe helped her fully embrace the character and create a look she was proud of. She now encourages others to trust their instincts and invest in themselves when it matters.

“Because of that, the yellow Versace suit will always be my favorite costume,” she told Woman’s World.

Over time, that bold color even became part of her personal style. Fox said she frequently wears the color yellow for other projects and encourages women to embrace brighter fashion choices.

“For a lot of my Lifetime films, I made sure to wear yellow. I love it, and I always include the color in my collection,” she revealed. “I don’t want women to be afraid of color. You don’t always have to wear black. Come in the room and stand out, honey!”
