The boys are back in town, and they're previewing their supe-rnatural reunion on *The Boys* season 5.

"They show up in episode 5," Kripke tells ** of Padalecki and Collins' roles. "What I love about what they're doing is they're just such douchebags. It's great. I mean, Soldier Boy is no treat either, but they're just really not morally upstanding dudes. It's a blast to watch them play that. It was just so much fun."

Kripke, who created *Supernatural*, has been slowly bringing back his actors in various capacities on *The Boys*, including Nathan Mitchell, Jim Beaver, Alvina August, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. With season 5 now being the final season and all, the main gents are back together. Ackles returns as the cryogenically frozen super soldier and father of Homelander (Antony Starr), while the season's early trailers gave a glimpse at the scene that involves Padalecki and Collins.

"I was told that there was the possibility of it happening, and I was like, 'I think it sounds awesome as long as it makes sense,'" Ackles says. "I'm protective of the show. Even though I'm not an original cast member, I still want to, as a fan of the show, make sure that every second counts on screen. Kripke figured out a way to weave them in there and make it outrageous and make it something special. It propels the story, it propels the characters."

*The Boys* final season picks up well after Homelander has taken complete control of the U.S. government and exacted his will over the country. Dissidents — including Hughie (Jack Quaid), Frenchie (Tomer Capone), and Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso) — are thrown into "Freedom Camps" indefinitely, while Starlight (Erin Moriarty) is still trying to build a rebellion.

As Homelander becomes hellbent on attaining immortality and declaring himself a god, Butcher (Karl Urban), now supe-d up himself, wants to use the chemically engineered supe-killing virus to take him out for good — even if it means wiping every supe off the map. When the stakes couldn't be higher, Homelander wakes up his slumbering father, Soldier Boy, for a mission that puts them in the path of Padalecki and Collins' characters.

If the trailers are any indication, it involves some light choking and at least one massive, blood-splattering explosion.

"I did not expect some of the things that we filmed in that sequence to go the way they did," Ackles teases. "It's a messy one."

*The Boys* season 5 premieres April 8 on Prime Video. Regardless of who makes it out alive by the end of it all, Ackles will return as Soldier Boy to headline prequel spinoff *Vought Rising* with Aya Cash's Stormfront. The series recently finished filming.
