Stephen King: newspaper editor?

First, let's imagine an post-apocalyptic world (cue the political quips). Now, wouldn't the best-selling author, 78, be the ideal candidate to report on such a society?

On that note, maybe all the King fans out there already know about the sold-out serial novella he wrote with author Benjamin Percy called The End Times. If not, brush up because the source material is now becoming a full-length novel.

The End Times: Volume One will be released in early 2027 and is now available for pre-order from Bad Hand Books.

The upcoming publication presents the full text of the The End Times serial project, set in a future where the world struggles to begin again after a deadly pandemic. In the storyline, main character Mary Poole finds meaning as a writer and editor when she revives an old printing press and begins publishing a small-town newspaper. But Mary soon discovers there are other, more sinister agendas at work as well...

If the aforementioned "pandemic" angle sounds familiar to King fans, they guessed right: The renowned novelist told Forbes last year that his faux paper “essentially takes place in the world of The Stand," the massive dark-fantasy book first published back in 1978.

The End Times: Volume One differs from the current digital and newspaper format by bringing readers the novel-length installment printed on 8.5” × 11” trim size. Plus, there are plans to include exclusive material not included in the original serial.

“The End Times is a deeply dystopian story with concerning similarities to the threats that America faces today,” says Bad Hand Books publisher Doug Murano. “The series tackles misinformation and the vital role media presented in good faith has within a vulnerable population. It’s exciting to bring this important story to an even wider audience through a full-length novel in a time where we need stories like this more than ever.”
