Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat follows Anthony, a temp worker unaware he’s the only non-actor at a staged retreat

The show’s creators sought a charismatic, empathetic lead to anchor the unscripted comedy’s elaborate premise

The cast features quirky characters, including a stoner heir, a Swiftie customer rep and a straight-talking accountant

Jury Duty is back with a new unsuspecting lead and a fresh cast of characters trying their best to keep the truth under wraps: that the star is really in the middle of an elaborate prank.

PEOPLE can exclusively reveal the eclectic cast of characters featured in Prime Video’s Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat, the next installment from the team behind Jury Duty, the hit documentary-style comedy that was released in 2023. The first season starred Ronald Gladden, a juror unaware that the court case he was working on was fake. It also featured James Marsden and was nominated for three Emmy Awards and won a Peabody Award.

Company Retreat follows a temp worker named Anthony as he heads to "a corporate offsite event at a family-owned hot sauce company," per a synopsis, Anthony has no idea that everything around him has been staged — and he’s the only one not in on the joke.

“Anthony’s charisma and kindness stood out immediately,” executive producer Nick Hatton shares with PEOPLE ahead of the show’s March 20 debut. “It was a big ask this season. We needed a hero who would not just integrate with a bunch of strangers but more importantly become the protagonist in their stories. Someone who was empathetic, self-possessed and represented how we all hope we would behave when dropped into this season’s situation.”

Hatton adds, “From day one, it was clear Anthony was going to be a great hero. As for how we found him — that’s part of the secret sauce required to make the show! But safe to say there were thousands of candidates and we’re so happy we landed the right one.”

The “right” candidate, Anthony in this situation, finds himself coming into contact with plenty of new friends as he enters this totally orchestrated company retreat for the hot sauce brand, Rockin' Grandma's. He just onboarded with the company, as the CEO prepares to step down and put his son in charge.

“The beginning of the writing process is actor-blind,”Hatton shares of casting. “Once we have a general sense of a character’s fundamental engine, the casting process is very open and Susie Farris (our brilliant Casting Director) watches thousands of tapes to leave no stone unturned. We then whittle folks down with an unusual callback process that emulates the unique environment that the actors will ultimately be performing in.”

He continues, “There are performers that we love and encourage to submit from the outset but at the end of the day because it’s such an unorthodox gig that stretches so many different parts of a performer's skill and mindset, everyone has to go through the same process so that we all feel confident they’ll be able to pull it off.”

The below cast is full of actors that Anthony could have easily encountered before, maybe on TV or in passing. But the “screening techniques” from the Jury Duty team gave them “a fair degree of confidence that Anthony wouldn’t recognize anyone,” Hatton says.

“It’s still not a guarantee, especially when you’re casting 12 series regulars plus a bevy of day players. The most tense period is the beginning before Anthony went on the retreat; that first night he stayed at a hotel and a number of our cast were in some pretty big commercials airing at the time. But once we got to Oak Canyon — which had no access to live TV — we knew we were in the clear,” he adds of the retreat location.
