Leighton Meester told ScreenRant in an article published on March 17 that she has already read some of the upcoming Gossip Girl book sequel, Blair. The novel, written by Cecily von Ziegesar and slated to come out in 2027 via Grand Central Publishing, will focus on her iconic character.
"I think it's cool. I did read some of it. They sent it to me in advance just so I could, I don't know, see what's going on," Meester told the publication at SXSW while promoting her new film Basic. "So, I read like the first seven chapters, and yeah, I think they're making it, they're going to release it as a book."

Blair's last Gossip Girl literary appearance was in 2009's I Will Always Love You, where she sought a fresh start in college and broke things off with Nate.
Per ScreenRant, the upcoming novel Blair takes place 20 years after the first book series' events. A middle-aged Blair returns to Manhattan and attempts to climb the social ladder and return to the affluent circle she had been part of years before.

Gossip Girl originally aired on The CW from 2007 to 2012, making Meester, Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Ed Westwick, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen, and the late Michelle Trachtenberg household names.
Gossip Girl received the reboot treatment for two seasons from 2021 to 2023 on HBO. Meester teased returning to the Gossip Girl universe in 2022.
"Never say never," she said at the time. "They're doing a whole new thing. I feel really good sort of sitting back and leaving it to the kids — to the young, new generation."
Though she didn't appear in the reboot series, she did have a reunion with Kristen Bell, the voice of Gossip Girl, during a bit for the 2025 SAG Awards. The voiceover brought a wave of nostalgia to fans, as the actresses gossiped about the actors at the award show — and what they were eating.

"Hey everyone, Gossip Girl here," Bell began. "One of my sources, Lainey86, sends me this: Spotted, at table 8, Jeff Goldblum has a wicked appetite and a peek behind the curtain reveals he likes his green eggs with ham. And look who it is, not-so-lonely boy Timothée Chalamet sitting next to a hot steak, medium rare, au poivre, with a side of broccoli — Leighton, none of this is gossip, it's just all about food.""I'm sorry, I'm just really hungry," Meester said.
