Netflix is reportedly in talks for a special of The Crown about ex-Prince Andrew's scandals
Andrew was arrested on Feb. 19 amid allegations of misconduct in public office tied to Jeffrey Epstein
Amazon and Disney are also allegedly exploring projects about Andrew's downfall
Have the scandals of the former Prince Andrew inspired a revival of The Crown on Netflix?
On Feb. 27, the Daily Mail reported that Netflix was "considering a one-off special of The Crown" following the historic arrest of the former Duke of York on Feb. 19.
PEOPLE has contacted Netflix for comment.
"The events of last week are historic and unprecedented. There have been discussions for some time with Left Bank Pictures, which owns the rights to The Crown, for a series of one-off specials about royal scandals and dramas," a source told the outlet.
"The Crown as a series has ended, but the name will live on. There have been advanced talks about doing a limited series, under The Crown banner, about the Andrew saga, which is as dramatic, if not more dramatic, than anything shown in the original series which included episodes on the abdication and the death of Diana," they added.

The Daily Mail said that the streamer "is in advanced talks with the show's creator for a limited series" about Andrew's downfall. The Crown was created by Peter Morgan and won 21 Emmys across its six seasons, which reimagined major events in the British royal family's history from 1947 to 2005.
The Crown's six seasons premiered on Netflix between 2016 and 2023; however, the streamer previously said that season 6 would be its last. Morgan has also said that he "always wanted" the fictional series to "remain a careful distance" from the present, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Daily Mail further reported that Amazon and Disney were also buzzing about bringing the latest twist in Andrew's story to the screen.
"We have been bombarded with screenwriters wanting to bring this story to us. The race is on in Hollywood to be the first studio to bring out an Andrew film," a Disney Studios source told the outlet.

Jeremy Brock, the screenwriter behind the 2024 Amazon MGM Studio series A Very Royal Scandal about Andrew's bombshell BBC Newsnight interview in 2019, told the Daily Mail, "Netflix and Amazon executives are 100% talking about making a drama based on Andrew's continued downfall."

On the morning of Feb. 19, his 66th birthday, Andrew Mounbatten-Windsor was arrested at his current home in Sandringham on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Authorities are investigating a claim that the former Duke of York shared confidential information with the late Jeffrey Epstein while serving as trade envoy for the U.K., a role he held from 2001 to 2011. The chain of events was set in motion by alleged emails revealed in the latest batch of Epstein files released by the U.S. Department of Justice on Jan. 30.
Andrew's links to the American financier and convicted sex offender set his step back from public life in motion in November 2019 following a disastrous Newsnight interview in which he discussed their ties. Epstein died while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges in August 2019, and Andrew has continuously denied any wrongdoing regarding their relationship.
King Charles' brother was released after spending about 11 hours in police custody and faces an uncertain road ahead. The investigation is ongoing, and Andrew has not been charged. If convicted for misconduct in public office, he could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
The King, 77, issued a statement soon after Andrew's detainment, pledging the palace's "full and wholehearted support and co-operation" in the investigation.

In October 2025, the sovereign stripped his brother's titles amid renewed scrutiny around the depth of his connections to Epstein and evicted him from Royal Lodge, his longtime home in Windsor.
The moves were final blows following Andrew's formal step back from his royal role in 2019 after the Newsnight interview. Queen Elizabeth later removed Andrew's military titles and patronages in January 2022 after a judge rejected his attempt to have Epstein victim Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s sexual assault lawsuit against him dismissed. Andrew settled with Giuffre out of court for an undisclosed sum, and she died by suicide at age 41 in April 2025.
Shortly before King Charles officially removed his royal titles in October, Andrew announced that he was relinquishing use of his royal styling. The shock update came before the release of Giuffre's posthumous memoir, Nobody's Girl, which shed new light on her claims that Epstein trafficked her to the British prince.
The same month, alleged emails between Andrew and Epstein also suggested that they were in touch after Andrew claimed to cut off contact with him. "It would seem we are in this together and will have to rise above it," the former Duke of York allegedly said.
