Cillian Murphy is putting to bed the rumors about him appearing on a highly anticipated new show. The Oppenheimer actor has been linked to the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. The adaptation of the novels by J.K. Rowling will feature plenty of unknown names that most fans aren’t familiar with. Among them will be Dominic McLaughlin, who is playing the title role.

Cillian is being linked to Lord Voldemort, the primary villain in the Harry Potter stories. He discussed that speculation.

We won’t be seeing Cillian Murphy portray Lord Voldemort. In a recent interview with The Times, he said, “I’m categorically not,” going to be stepping into that role. Links to him playing that infamous character were news to the Academy Award-winner.

His run on the British show Peaky Blinders ended in 2022, with the Irishman earning a Best Actor nomination for his portrayal of Thomas Shelby at the 2023 BAFTA Awards, which honor the best in British film and television.

For the moment, Cillian’s focus is on other things rather than Harry Potter rumors. Late last year, the internet went crazy when word came out that he’s reprising his role as Thomas Shelby.

The upcoming Harry Potter series is currently in production and will feature veteran actors like John Lithgow and Nick Frost. It will premiere on HBO in the United States in early 2027. Eight episodes will drop around that time.

Peaky Blinders will soon be coming to the big screen. Its upcoming film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, is currently in post-production, with Cillian starring and serving as a producer. Joining him are Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson, Jay Lycurgo and Barry Keoghan, all reprising their roles from the show. The movie debuts on Netflix on March 20th.
